From one busy mum to another...
If you’re anything like me, the school holidays are a mix of beautiful moments and complete chaos. The kids are home, routines are loose, and by the time school rolls around again, you’re already a little (or a lot) tired.
Over the years, I’ve learned that getting back to school feels a lot easier when a few things are already sorted. Not perfectly, just enough to take the pressure off.
LUNCH
Lunch bags are a big one. Something that actually fits everything without needing a second bag. Containers, snacks, a drink bottle, keys and phone all in one place. Insulated, easy to carry and practical enough to be used beyond just school days. When mornings are rushed, having one reliable grab and go bag makes a difference.
Drink bottles matter too. The kind that do not leak through school bags, keep drinks cold all day and look cute enough that your kids will actually want to pack them. When kids enjoy using their bottle, staying hydrated becomes one less battle.
ROUTINES
The fridge is the heart of our home, so having planner magnets set up there just makes sense. Seeing the week laid out with school days, activities and meals helps everyone know what is going on, without needing to ask ten times. Remember, out of sight, out of mind. So it's not about being perfectly organised... just visible.
Chore charts have also been a quiet win in our house. Not about perfection, but about routine. Little tasks, clear expectations and small rewards help kids feel involved and responsible.
STATIONERY
And notebooks. There is just something about a fresh notebook. For school notes, lists, reminders or little thoughts that need somewhere to land. Plus my kids love them as they feel a bit special, and come in so many cute colours. Don't forget matching luxe pens and highlighters too!
Back to school does not need to be stressful. From one mum to another, it is really just about setting things up in a way that supports you so the year ahead feels calmer, more organised and more manageable.
